Unheard: The Story of Anna Winslow by Anthony Del Col
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
My Rating: 4/5 Stars
Unheard: The Story of Anna Winslow is best described as an immersive audio drama or podcast rather than a traditional audiobook. The opening scenes were incredibly promising, suggesting a narrative that would keep me hooked from start to finish. Overall, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag, but one that kept me listening.
The Plot: A "Murder, She Wrote" Vibe with a Twist
A student decides to play Sherlock Holmes, but in the end, she pays the price for the idiocy and childishness of the grown men around her. The story gave me major "Murder, She Wrote" vibes. The only catch? Our lead is a less competent Jessica Fletcher, whose primary aim seemed to be giving the listener a heart attack—calm down, I’m just joking!
The plot follows Melissa Lopez, an American student living in Leeds, who begins to investigate the disappearance of her fellow student, Anna Winslow. When Anna is tragically discovered dead, the mystery deepens: was she killed, or did she commit suicide?
The Audio Experience
This short production, available for free on Audible, is designed to have you grabbing your pillows in no time. While the narrative arrangement felt slightly disjointed at points—to the extent that you feel like you’re running away from something even when nobody is after you—it succeeds in creating tension.
Most of the "creepy" vibes come directly from the atmospheric background noises and sound design. It definitely kept me on edge as the mystery unfolded. If you can handle the intensity of the audio, I’d suggest you take the plunge.
