My rating: 5 of 5 stars
As funny as it might sound, when I began reading this book, I wanted to stop. I am not a major aficionado of fiction; I am one of those individuals who prefers watching a motion picture to perusing a novel. I was hesitant to invest my time here, and truthfully, I considered dropping it after the first 5%. Perhaps that is just the life of someone who isn't usually into fiction.
However, I forced myself to continue, and that was the turning point: I got hooked. Celena M. Janton got me right where she wanted me. Three hours of reading felt like 20 minutes. When I finished, I immediately checked Amazon for the sequel—but it isn't out yet! This is the tale of how The Songbird and the Secret changed my perspective on fiction novels.
A Masterclass in Time-Travel Storytelling
The story was brilliant. I was overwhelmed by how the author navigated through different time periods and linked everything together wonderfully. I could place myself in every era, getting a clear, vivid picture of the world the author was painting.
I also became enamored with the characters, especially Katharina and Melissa—they both have such lovely personalities.
More Than Just a Story
As someone who appreciates reading Christian non-fiction, inspirational, and motivational books, I usually need more on the table than just a well-organized plot. I wanted substance, and this book delivered. It spoke effortlessly about forgiveness, self-love, patience, and salvation. The author wasn't just in the business of telling a fantastic story; she was sharing gems that are vital to life.
A Powerful Moment of Salvation
The part that truly got to me was the moment a character found salvation. We are so accustomed to the idea that salvation happens in a church during an altar call. I was floored when one of my favorite characters got saved while locked in a school restroom. It wasn't a "conducive" environment—it was a school latrine! But it served as a powerful reminder: it doesn't matter where you are calling out from; God hears, He sees, and He is more than capable of delivering.
Enough of my whining—go get a copy for yourself. As for me, I cannot wait for the next series to be launched!
